Dynotec provided comprehensive water resources surveying, mapping, and site planning services for both of Dayton’s water treatment plants and associated wellfields in response to the 2019 tornadoes.

As a subcontractor, Dynotec developed base site plans and asset documentation through topographic surveys, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), and water facility planning to support the City of Dayton’s evaluation of emergency operations across its water supply systems. The team reviewed all record drawings, surveyed sanitary and stormwater inverts, and coordinated aerial surveys at both water treatment plants. Wellfield structures, including all wellheads, pumping stations, and support facilities, were surveyed to create accurate base maps, addressing limited existing location data and ensuring reliable water system documentation.

Following the initial surveys, Dynotec coordinated SUE at the plants and wellfields to provide the City with precise locations of critical water infrastructure, enabling informed planning for future plant upgrades, resiliency improvements, and operational continuity. All survey data and deliverables were prepared in AutoCAD, ensuring seamless integration with the City’s design and water system management workflows. Additionally, Dynotec’s architectural team evaluated facility conditions and interior spaces at buildings acquired by the City at Kitty Hawk Golf Course for potential use as water lab or training facilities.

The Result: Dynotec delivered highly accurate mapping, survey data, and facility assessments that strengthened Dayton’s understanding of its water treatment and supply systems. The project enabled the City to plan for emergency response, resiliency upgrades, and ongoing operational improvements. By documenting critical water infrastructure and wellfield assets, Dynotec helped ensure that the water system remains reliable, resilient, and fully prepared for future emergencies. Facility assessments at Kitty Hawk informed potential water lab and training space development, supporting long-term water resources management and workforce preparedness.
