Wooster Armory Parking Lot & Pavement Renovation

Wooster, OH

Dynotec, Inc. was retained by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission and the Ohio Adjutant General’s Department to assess, design, and prepare construction documents for the rehabilitation of the existing pavement and parking areas at the Wooster Armory.

The Armory, originally built in 1953, featured a 2,584 SY POV parking area that required upgrades to improve the training environment for National Guard soldiers and employees. Dynotec’s first step was to determine the root causes of the site issues through field exploration, survey, and geotechnical testing. Investigation revealed that poor subbase conditions and inadequate drainage were the primary contributors to pavement deterioration.

Based on these findings, Dynotec developed comprehensive plans that included demolition of the existing parking lot and driveway, regrading and reconstruction of a proposed 52-space POV lot, and installation of new drainage structures to eliminate ponding. The design also increased pavement depth on the west side of the Armory to accommodate heavy equipment and machinery traveling to the fenced-in rear parking area. Proposed lot layout and restriping were developed to meet updated parking requirements and restrictions. Dynotec was responsible for preparing a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), detailed cost estimates, technical specifications, and complete bid documents for the project.

The Result: Dynotec’s survey-driven design provided a durable, functional, and code-compliant parking solution for the Wooster Armory. Drainage and subbase issues were resolved, site safety and accessibility were improved, and heavy equipment operations were fully accommodated. The construction documents allowed for efficient project execution and ensured long-term performance, supporting the National Guard’s training and operational needs.
