Alum Creek Pump Station Rehabilitation - Phase One
Columbus, OH
Dynotec provided full construction management and field oversight for a $10 million project that transferred water from Alum Creek Dam to Hoover Dam.
Serving as the sole Construction Manager and Field Project Representative, Dynotec's team oversaw the installation of new split seals on existing pumps, rehabilitation of two 100-million-gallon raw water pump motors, and replacement of the Motor Control Center, Programmable Logic Controls, and communications systems. The project also included installation of compressors, dehumidifiers, transformers, switchgear, roofing, windows, and lighting, as well as the removal of antiquated sluice gates and the installation of new gates in the wet well.
Dynotec coordinated closely with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Alum Creek Dam and the Del-Co Water Plant to manage critical shutdowns and outages and provided additional oversight, administrative support, and on-site coordination throughout the project.
The scope of work extended across multiple systems and disciplines, including:

-
Pump Station Improvements: Demolition and replacement of pump motors, motor starters, transformers, switchgear, eddy current drives, and control panels.

-
HVAC & Plumbing Upgrades: Replacement of unit heaters, dehumidifiers, fans, water closets, air conditioning units, and supporting infrastructure.

-
Building Improvements: Installation of new windows, skylights, roofing, handrails, and general facility repairs.

-
Process Mechanical Upgrades: Demolition and modifications to mechanical screens, interior piping, valves, and sluice gates.

-
Instrumentation & Controls: Replacement of control systems, PLC panels, radio telemetry, and associated field instruments.

The Result: This comprehensive rehabilitation project modernized pumping, mechanical, and electrical systems, significantly improving operational reliability and efficiency. Through careful coordination of plant outages and stakeholder communication, Dynotec ensured uninterrupted water service while extending the service life of critical infrastructure at both Alum Creek and Hoover Dams.
